RIOKAY QING LING (in her new home in Tassie)
I have lived on the beautiful Gold Coast since 1972 after moving from Brisbane. I live with my beautiful Burmese and a Toy Poodle named "Lockie" after Darryn Lockyer from the Brisbane Broncos. I am a registered breeder with the Queensland Feline Association Inc and have been since I began breeding in 1984. I hold a Breeders Permit with the Gold Coast City Council.
When I became involved in the showing and breeding of my cats, it was something I wanted to be sure I did properly so I devoted many hours to learning about their dietry requirements, socialisation, healthy environment so as to nurture these little darlings, who would one day go on to share their lives, and love, as companions, with others.
My introduction to Burmese cats was when visiting friends in Sydney, their cat came up on the couch beside me and immediately sat on my lap. From that day forward my husband and I always said when we were able to have a cat in our lives it would be a Burmese. So the rest is history as they say, except, that when Burmese came into our lives my husband talked about breeding because of their exceptional temperaments, so here I am 33 years on and they still entertain, amaze and smother me with their affection and exquisite natures and wonderful purr-sonalities.
Life takes many turns, but my Beautiful Burmese have always been a constant in my life since 1984, and will be forever.
Over my 33 years in the Cat Fancy I have enjoyed many experiences some of which began very early on. I very quickly became involved in learning how to be a good steward for a judge at a show and also how to assist with the Ticket Writing as it was called back then. Things were very different back then, judges did not speak to an audience in general about each exhibit, it was basically done behind closed doors, so being a steward (a much sought after job in those days) meant you got to hear the judges opinion 1st hand. Today as judges, we are asked to speak about each exhibit as we judge them in front of breeders/owners and the general public. I have managed many successful shows both local, in Brisbane and a National as well. 5 years on I commenced my training to become a Shorthair Judge, which I completed in 1989, then a few years later went on to do my training as a Longhair judge and so became an All Breeds Judge.
I have judged in every State in Australia as well as New Zealand many times, ad also Kuala Lumpur. I have judged in Europe, in Stuttgart, Germany and The Netherlands in 2011. I judged in Johannesberg Sth Africa in 2013 at the World of Dogs and Cat Expo.
